Maxine Elizabeth Hoagland, a resident of John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, formerly of Memorial Boulevard and South Myers Avenue, both Sharon, passed away of natural causes at 1:30 p.m. Friday (10-25-13) in the home. She was 87.

She was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Chester, W.Va., a daughter of Clarence and Hilda Erma Milligan Knowles.

She was a member of Sharon High School's graduating class of 1945.

A registered nurse, Maxine graduated from the Christian H. Buhl School of Nursing, Sharon.

She worked as a registered nurse for many years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Elec. Corp.

She also worked as a health officer for the city of Sharon.

A member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, she belonged to its Women's Guild.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy Hoagland; and two brothers, Richard and James Knowles.

She is survived by her husband, David Hoagland Sr., whom she married Sept. 3, 1949.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
