MAQUON - Oren Marlyn Knox, 89, Maquon, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 9:25 a.m. at his residence.
He was born March 16, 1922 in Humboldt, Iowa, the son of Oren A. and Fannie Katherine Love Knox.
He married Verna Marie Kemper on Sept. 14, 1947, in Maquon.
She preceded him in death on April 23, 2002.
Surviving are sons Vincent (Linda) Knox of Frostproof, Fla., Oren "Bennie" (Cheryl) Knox of Gilson and Thomas L. (Mary Clare) Knox of Maquon; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters Launa "Unie" Moshier of Canton, Fern (George) Mitchell of Dumas, Texas, and Iva D. Smith of Elmwood; and one brother, Raymond (Elaine) Knox of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, George and Walter; and one granddaughter, Lisa Marie Knox.
He was raised and educated in Kansas City, Mo.
He served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific.
He worked as a fork lift truck driver at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg for over 30 years, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Graveside memorial services will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at Maquon Cemetery in Maquon. The Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to Maquon United Methodist Church or the Maquon Fire Department.
Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.
