Shirley Jean Blomgren, age 84, of 1233 Springdale North,Quincy died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 10:15 pm in her home.

Shirley was born January 12, 1928 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of W. E. and Margaret Thyson Knox. She married Elmer "Bud" Blomgren on February 14, 1948 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1989.

She was a 1946 Quincy High School graduate, attended Glendale College in California where she met her future husband and Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO. She was employed at Motorola on the assembly line and worked in the nursery at St. Mary Hospital. After the death of her husband, she worked for 23 years as an "in home" caregiver for the elderly where she cleaned, fixed meals and cared for people wanting to stay in their homes. She was a very caring and loving person. She retired this past spring. Shirley was active in Ellington Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and had still been serving as a deacon.

Survivors include three sons, Alan Blomgren and Gary Blomgren, both of Quincy, IL, and Steven (Beatriz) Blomgren of Mesa, AZ; a granddaughter, Stephanie Blomgren of Mesa, AZ; a sister, Gwen Kenady of Quincy, and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Carl and Jessie Blomgren, and her brother-in-law, Robert Kenady.

Services: 11:00 am Monday, December 10, 2012 at Ellington Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jim Dennis and Rev. Ron Cox officiating.

Burial: Ellington Home Cemetery

Visitation: 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Sunday December 9th at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
