Carlye La Belle, whose life spanned 86 years, died at home in Olympia on August 17, 2001. Carlye Vieth was born in Teresita, Mo., on April 3, 1915. She graduated from Olympia High School and was a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.Carlye met Joy La Belle in 1932, and they were married September 7, 1941, in the Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood. Since then, they have lived quietly on their beautiful wooded property in a home built by Joy. Their children had been looking forward to celebrating their parents' 60th wedding anniversary in a few weeks.Mrs. La Belle taught English literature at Olympia High School until her retirement in 1977. She loved her students, her colleagues, and her subject.She is survived by her husband, Joy; her son, Jan La Bell of Olympia; daughters Jenijoy La Belle of Pasadena, California, and Jinx La Belle Brown of Billings, Montana; and four grandchildren: Count La Belle of Olympia, and Breeze, Arielle, and Bryce Brown of Billings.Those who knew Carlye will remember her laugh, her grace, her gentleness, the enduring innocence of her face, and all her ways of being kind. These are her epitaph.A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 24, at Olympic Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Olympia High School Foundation..
