GALLATIN, Mo. -- Dorothy Mae (Laffey) Critten, 74, rural Gallatin, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Critten, a homemaker, was a Head Start teacher in Daviess County, Mo., for more than 30 years, retiring in 1995, and had taught in Livingston County, Mo.

Born Oct. 6, 1924, near Hamilton, Mo., she was a graduate of Jamesport High School and had attended Maryville, Mo., State Teachers' College.

Mrs. Critten was a member of the Olive Baptist Church, east of Gallatin, where she was a Sunday school teacher; Baptist Women's Missionary Organization; and served as a 4-H Club leader in Daviess County.

On Nov. 18, 1945, she married Maurice A. Critten in Gallatin. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Critten was preceded in death by a son, Roger; her parents, Grover and Ella Laffey; a brother, Fred Laffey; and a sister, Ruth Thompson.

Additional survivors: two sons, Darrell, Gallatin, and Karl, St. Joseph; three daughters, Patricia Orr, Liberty, Mo., Debbie Fisher, Smithville, Mo., and Sandra Logan, Columbia, Mo.; two brothers, Mack Laffey, Laredo, Mo., and Pat Laffey, Chillicothe, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Campbell, Chillicothe, Lula Smith, Jamesport, and Dolores Lockridge, Corydon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Gallatin First Baptist Church.

Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin.

Visitation: after noon today, Bram Funeral Home, Gallatin, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
