Sheryl Ann Grindy was born in Adrian, MN, on June 17, 1944, to Charles and Eleanor Lais. Sherrie grew up on a farm in SW Minnesota. She received her 3-year nursing diploma from Presentation School of Nursing. She married Mark Grindy in 1986. She worked as a nurse in South Dakota, Illinois, Colorado, California, and Minnesota. She lived in the Willmar area for 35 years. She loved being a mom, especially the teenage years, watching her kids become adults. Being a mom and grandmother were one of many treasures and highlights of her life.
Sherrie loved being a nurse, especially helping persons who were in need of treatment for both mental and chemical dependency issues. She loved gardening, flowers, and camping. Her winter passion was snowmobiling, especially in the mountains of West Yellowstone, Montana. She was an avid baseball fan and loved watching the Willmar Stingers. Exploring family genealogy was another passion. She felt lucky to grow up on the farm and was grateful for her Catholic education. She loved family gatherings and visits back to the farm. Her grandchildren were such a source of joy. Keeping a positive attitude, finding the good in others, and building and maintaining a strong faith in God were very important values to Sherrie.
Sherrie was a member of D of I, Eucharistic Ministry, Health Ministry Program at St. Mary’s Church and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a Red Hat Lady, a member of the New London Garden Club, and EZ Riders Sno Club, and volunteered at the Hope Pregnancy Center and the Barn Theatre.
Sherrie is survived by her husband of 29 years, Mark; two sons: Shawn (and Tracy) of Buffalo, MN, and Scott of Circle Pines, MN; two grandchildren: Jordan and Morgan of Buffalo, MN; siblings, Dave (and Ardys) Lais of New London; Tom (and Celia) Lais of Chandler; Jean (and Dean) Peterson of Garretson, SD and sister-in-law, Norma Lais of Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jim Lais.
