MRS. LORETTO CHAPPELL
DEATH OCCURED EARLY LAST NIGHT AT THE FAMILY RESIDENCE ON ROSE HILL
Widow of Hon. Absalon H. Chappell. Five Children Survive Her. Funeral Thursday.
Mrs. Loretto Rebecca Lamar Chappell died at her residence on Rose Hill, this city, at ten o'clock last night, after an illness of ten days. Her vitality had
long been remarkable , in view of her advanced age, at last life gradually gently departed.
Mrs. Chappell had passed her eighty-seventh birthday anniversary which recently celebrated by her family and friends. Although somewhat infeebled by age, Mrs. Chappell attained, until her last illness, a lively interest in current events and was especially fond of young people.
Mrs. Chappell was the daughter of John and Rebecca Lamar, of Putnam County, Ga., where she was born on July 16, 1818, the youngest of eight children.
Mirabeau B. Lamar, founder of The Enquirer Sun, and later president of Texas, was her brother, as was Judge L. Q. C. Lamar, of Georgia, father of the late senator and supreme court justice, L. Q. C. Lamar of Mississippi, who was her nephew. Her other brothers were Dr. Thomas R. Lamar, of Macon, and Jefferson J. Lamar, the father of the late Lucius M. Lamar. Congressman Lamar, of Florida, is her nephew.
Mrs. Chappell leaves five living children---one daughter, Mrs. James H. Toomer, of Portsmouth, Va., and four sons, Dr. J. Harris Chappell, Hom. Thomas J. Chappell, Hon. Lucius H. Chappell, mayor of the city of Columbus, and Mr. Lamar Chappell, of Memphis Tenn. per: Lois Hottinger
