Petronella Ovidia Langlie Bergsgaard was born in Norway to parents Peder Olsen Langlie and Dorthea Jakobia Olsdatter Fagerdal Langlie. She attended grade school and high school in Norway and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Otto (Nella) Bergsgaard, 70, were conducted last Thursday 26 Apr 1962 in the Viking Lutheran Church south of Maddock with Pastor F. E. Olderr officiating. Interment was in the Viking Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Harley Gilbertson, Carl Sundet, H. K. Trimmer, Kermit Bergsgaard, Herman Hvinden and Carl J. Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were B B. Guskjolen, Peder Stenrodden, Jesse Ellingson, Laurence Bergsgaard, Edwin Gullerud and Albert O. Nelson. At the age of 17 years, she came to the United States where she met and married Otto L. Bergsgaard in the Viking Church on 13 Aug 1911. They lived in Heimdal, Manfred and Valley City until 1943 when they moved to Portland OR where they had since resided. On 5 Jun 1961 Mrs. Bergsgaard suffered a stroke and had been a semi-invalid since that time. On Easter Sunder, 22 Apr 1962 she passed away from a heart attack. She was brought back to the Viking Cemetery to be buried next to her husband, Otto.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter: Mrs. D. W. (Agnetta) Buckman of St. Paul, MN; Lloyd Bergsgaard of Phoenix, AZ; Randall Bergsgaard of Maddock and Woodrow Bergsgaard of Portland, OR. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.
