Born to Dodoteo and Elena Laredo in Tucumcari, N.M., Maria lived there through high school (class of 1940) and married Roy Griego of Trinidad, Colorado (now deceased) who was working nearby in the CC Camps.
Together they were blessed with seven children; Mary Margaret Griego Hime (Albuquerque), Barbara Ann Griego Arnold (Chicago), Michael Ray Griego (Albuquerque), Robert Roy Griego (Hercules, CA), Judy Terese Griego Contino (Chicago), Anthony Patrick Griego (Albuquerque), Eva Elizabeth Griego Powell (Albuquerque), 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Maria's siblings include Elvira Guiterrez (dec.), Connie (Consulo) Lobato, Fernando Laredo (dec.), Fred Laredo (dec.), Barbara Centeno, Helena Varela, Richardo Laredo, Hope Bruno, Natalie Lopez and Bill Laredo.
The families Griego and Laredo and many longtime friends, all of whom she was so thankful for, will greatly miss her.
Maria served and participated with her family at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, enjoyed the community activities at the Barelas Senior Center and served for many years as a foster grandparent at Dolores Gonzales Elementary School.
