Joe was born April 13, 1927 in Aiken, South Carolina, the son of the late Elizabeth Willis Lee and Joseph Dill Lee, Sr.
He graduated from Marshall High School, Marshall, Virginia in 1947, enlisted in the US Navy and served 5 years 8 months and 21 days. He received a USCG Good Conduct Medal and China Service Medal. He retired from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in 1983. He was a member of the VFW, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Winchester Chapter 180, and the American Legion. Worshipful Joseph Lee was very proud to be a Mason serving 60 years this month. He was always ready to assist his lodge and promote Masonry. He was a member of Cochran Lodge in The Plains, Virginia since January 25, 1952 and a member of Mt. Carmel Lodge in Warrenton, Virginia since September 24, 1957. He was Master three times at the Cochran Lodge (1965-1966, 1973). Joe was awarded a Silver Veteran's Badge, an honor conferred by the Grand Lodge of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Hayes Berry Lee whom he married March 22, 2001, in Paris, Virginia in the Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Lee Britt, Nancy Wiser Lee, and Irma Lee Fitzgerald and numerous nieces and nephews. His first wife, Nancy Wiser Lee, preceded him in death on January 12, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at Front Royal Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, January 10th, at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Dr. C. Thomas Rhyne officiating.
