Eleanor Lee Bower, 72, of The Plains, died Aug. 6 at her residence. She was born Feb. 26, 1934, in Loudoun County to the late Henry W. and Katie Williams Barton. Mrs. Bower worked for the Fauquier County Public Schools for 10 years. Survivors include her husband, Richard W. Bower; one daughter, Patricia Hurt of Roanoke; four sons, James Sutphin of Rixeyville, Wendell Sutphin of Warrenton, Gary Sutphin of Marshall and Lester Sutphin of The Plains; and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Fran Koebler of Marshall. Her first husband, Aldrich Sutphin Jr., predeceased her. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Royston Funeral Home, Marshall, with interment at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Upperville. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, PO Box 31, The Plains VA 20198.
