Edwin James Lee, 85, of Warrenton died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Fauquier Hospital.

Ed was born in Mitchells, a son of Robert Fitzhugh Lee and Harriet Smoot Lee.He was preceded in death by three siblings, Robert W. Lee, Anna Castle and Charles D. Lee.

Ed Lee attended The College of William & Mary and graduated from Smithdeal-Massey Business College.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served for three years in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.

He was an administrator with Fauquier County public schools, working at both the former Remington High School and Cedar-Lee High School from 1963 until his retirement from Fauquier High School.

An active member of church,he was a former member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church at Morrisville and Grove Baptist Church in Goldvein, and served as a deacon at both. For many years, he was an active member of Warrenton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, treasurer and Sunday school teacher.

As a lifetime member of the Fauquier Falcon Booster Club, he was named its Falcon Man of the Year in 1979. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Warrenton-Fauquier Jaycees in 1984-85 and also had received a similar award from the Warrenton Soroptomist Club at an earlier time.

He was a member of John D. Sudduth American Legion Post 72 in Warrenton and was the recipient of its 1988 Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department and served as its treasurer. He was a former member of the Morrisville-Bristersburg Ruritan Club and had been a member of the Warrenton Ruritan Club for 46 years. He also was a Ruritan Zone District Governor in 1956.
In 1992,he was given the Special Recognition Award for Distinguished Community Service from the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors. The Edwin J. Lee trophy is given each year to the county high school that wins the most awards for all athletic achievements for the school year.

Ed is survived by his wife of 59 years, three sons, and six siblings.
