The sudden death of the week was that of Mrs. Sarah Baker, wife of Geo. F. Baker, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Leland, of this city. She died at the family residence five and a half miles north of this city on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2nd. The cause of the death was premature child-birth, resulting from inflammation of the bowels. She was seriously ill only a short time before her death.
Mrs. Baker was born in East Waterloo Township Feb. 14, 1858, and was married to Mr. Baker Feb. 14, 1888.
She was generally well known by the older settlers of the county, and as universally esteemed for her pleasant ways and kindly disposition. Her sudden death, after so short a married life, is a serious blow to the bereaved husband and parents, who have the hearty sympathies of neighbors and acquaintances.
The motherless little one, whose advent into the world was surrounded with such sad circumstances, still survives.
The funeral was held yesterday morning from the late residence of the deceased, the services being conducted by Rev. L. F. Porter, of the Universalist church of this city. There was a very large attendance of sympathizing friends and the remains were interred in Fairview Cemetery.
