David "Peter" Leland 1948 - 2015 ARLINGTON, VT David "Peter" Leland, 67, a resident of Butternut Gutter Road passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He was born in Long Branch, NJ on March 20, 1948 son of the late Jean Halsey. He received his education from Perkiomen and was a graduate of The College of Insurance and Castleton State College. Mr. Leland served in the United States Army during the Korean and Gulf War. He married the former Diana Muratorri on February 8, 1980 in Bennington, VT. In earlier years, he worked in insurance in New York City, then worked pediatrics at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He finished his careers as an Occupational Health and Safety Nurse with the New York Army National Guard in Latham, NY. In earlier years Peter enjoyed motorcycling. He also enjoyed music and dancing along with being an avid New York Yankee fan. His family was always his main focus. Survivors include his wife, Diana Leland of Arlington, VT. Their children, Shawn Leland and his wife, Stacy of Aurora, CO, Shannon Leland and her husband, Alexander Eaton of San Francisco, CA and Shane Leland of Arlington, VT. Six grandchildren, Sawyer, Sloan and Spencer Leland of Aurora, CO and Tristen, Lexi and Isabella Leland of Arlington, VT. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Wednesday December 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. The graveside committal service with military honors will be held at the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington on Thursday at 11a.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Peter may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
