Owned Village Inn, enjoyed singing, dancing
Angelina (Leone) Ametisti, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, after a brief illness.
Angie was born in Buena to the late Philice and Florence (Fiori) Leone and was a lifelong Vineland resident. Prior to retirement, Angie owned and operated the Village Inn in Landisville with her husband, Chip. Angie enjoyed dancing and singing, and had fond memories of dances at Rainbow Lake in the summers of 1931 and 1932, where she became acquainted with the yet-to-be discovered Red Skelton. She provided him with food, clothing and pennies during his lean years and once gave him a pair of socks that she had to sneak out of her parents' home. Angie and her husband, Chip, also frequented the 500 Club in Atlantic City in its heyday and became acquainted with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. She enjoyed horse racing and was present at the match race between Sea Biscuit and War Admiral in 1938 at Pimlico, Md. Angie was also a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Survivors include her brothers, Phil Leone of Vineland, Cosmo Leone of Buena; four nieces, Marie (Fred) Hurban of Buena, Geri Cherico of Vineland, Janet (Dan) Weber of Vineland, Linda (Ralph) Travaglione of Malaga; and one nephew Gary (Carol) Leone of Blue Bell, Pa. She is also survived by several great--nieces and neph-ews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Aldo (Chip) Ametisti; three sisters, Anna Lupi, Marie Cherico and Mamie Leone; and one brother Bill Leone.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 1019 E Landis Ave., Vineland.
Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m Tuesday at the funeral home.
