Mother of John L. Lewis, United Mine Workers chief. Resident of Springfield since 1915. Born in Wales on Oct. 3, 1858 and emigrated to the U. S. as a child. Married Thomas Lewis in 1878 in Iowa. Survived by sons John L. Lewis, A. D. "Denny" Lewis, Thomas, Howard, Ray, and daughters Miss Hattie Lewis and Mrs. Sarah Edith Collins; sister Mrs. Elizabeth Morgan and three grandchildren.
