Zona was the stepmother of famed pianist/entertainer Liberace. She and her husband, Sam, had played with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra before moving to San Francisco. Zona died following a long illness.

LIBERACE'S STEPMOTHER DIES
Mrs. Zona Gale Liberace, 66, stepmother of the popular pianist from West Allis, died Sunday at a hospital in San Francisco. Mrs. Liberace lived in San Francisco with her husband, Sam, who is the father of Walter, the pianist, and George, who used to accompany his brother on the violin. Mrs. Liberace, whose maiden name was Leu, was born in Milwaukee. She was named after author Zona Gale, a friend of her mother's. Her sister, Mrs. Chester C. (Madeline) Kennedy lives here. Mrs. Liberace played piano and cello in the Milwaukee and Madison symphony orchestras and taught at the former Milwaukee-Downer College. She married Salvatore (Sam) Liberace, also a symphony musician, in 1943, after he was divorced. Her first husband, Alois Smrz, was a prominent cellist here.
