Dreda M. Appleton, age 89 formerly of Green, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on September 29, 1927 in Miltonvale, the daughter of Frank H. and Lois Alice (Ray) Lister. She grew up and went to school in the Miltonvale area. She married Don Sterrett and had four children. They later divorced.

On October 12, 1967, she was married to Don Appleton in Green. He preceded her in death in 2015.

Dreda worked many jobs at places, such as the Green Grocery Store, Green Restaurant and Clay County Hospital. She enjoyed having coffee, tea or a Coke with friends and neighbors. She was active in the Green United Methodist Church for many years. She loved cooking and having family over especially at Easter, birthdays, holidays or anytime for no reason in particular. Family most enjoyed her apple pies, fried chicken, potato salad and sheet cake. She was definitely the family historian and a loving and caring grandma; just ask any of her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Fran Scheinkoenig of Palmer, Texas; two sons, Dale Sterrett (Nan) of Concordia and Dan Sterrett (Kathy) of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren, Christy, Carol, Damon, Darrin, Holly and Crystal; 13 great grandchildren, Josh, Conner, Casey, Caitlyn, Cade, Zaide, Dylan, Dustin, Drew, Lucas, Breanna, Bailey and Maddie and many nieces and nephews.

In addition her husband, Don Appleton, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Dean; five siblings, Carl, Lawrence and Leland Lister, Wilma Parry and Wanda Fosdick; her son-in-law, Rod Scheinkoenig and her first husband, Don Sterrett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in the Green Cemetery south of Green.

Memorials have been established for Green United Methodist Church and the Leonardville Nursing Home. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
