Husband - Lawrence Dion

Frances Emily Dion (Dodo) November 13, 1925 – October 23, 2010 After a short battle with brain cancer Frances (Dodo) passed away peacefully at Campbell River Hospital October 23, 2010 with family at her side. Predeceased by daughter Lorelei in 1976 and husband Lawrence in 1993, Survived by children Karen (Alan) Hares, Walter Dion, Danny Dion, Michelle (Henry) Albrecht. Grandchildren Tracey Hares, Cale Hares, Leigh (Macushla) Hares, Scott (Jennifer) Hares, Shawn Albrecht, Cory (Joelle Miller) Albrecht, Christopher Albrecht and 5 great-grand children. Born in Dauphin Manitoba, Mom spent the early years of her life living in northern Manitoba. She trained and worked as a registered nurse and x-ray technician in The Pas. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Lawrence (Dink) Dion. They married in 1947 and had 5 children. In 1964 the family moved to Campbell River, living in 2 tents out at Shelter Bay. With fall approaching and the thought of her children starting school, Mom simply went out one day and purchased a house large enough for her family. A strong supporter of people with disabilities, Mom worked tirelessly to ensure services and programs were available not only for her children but for other disabled children and adults as well. As one of the original members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Campbell River & District Association for Community Living, Mom volunteered countless hours at “Our Place” teaching life skills, arts and crafts, running bingos, craft and bazaar sales and served on the Association’s board of directors. Mom had an amazing talent for crafts of all kinds and forever had a project on the go. Her Christmas mice will always be treasured. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Salvation Army Ocean Crest Community Church at 291 McLean St. at 1pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Campbell River & District Association for Community Living or the Willow Point Supportive Living Society.
