Evelyn McMurray Elix
Evelyn McMurray - Elix 78 of Oklahoma City and former resident of Hobart, died Monday August 2nd at Deaconess Hospital. She was born July 23rd 1932 in Winona, Texas to Tom and Florine Lott.
She attended school at Dunbar in Hobart and graduated from Weldon High School in Gladewater Texas. In 1955 she married Nathaniel McMurray Sr. In Bryan, Texas. She returned to Hobart in the late 50's and reared her children there. She worked for many years in the nursing and dietary departments at the Good Samaritan Home in Hobart. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1978, where she continued to work in that field receiving a dietary certification.
In 1987 she married William Elix in Oklahoma City. She loved to cook. Her front yard was full of flowers and she spent many joyful hours tending a large vegetable garden in her back yard. Evelyn united with Watersbluff CME Church at an early age and served faithfully in any way she could. She was a member of the AME Methodist Church in Hobart, moving to Oklahoma City She became a member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church. At the time of her home going she served as church mother of Trinity Baptist Church. She loved the music ministry and sang loud and strong for Christ.
She leaves to mourn her husband William Elix, one Sister Ruby Harris, Las Vegas, NV, three sons; Charles Spencer and wife Bertha, Mangum, OK; Nate McMurray, Hobart, OK; Otis McMurray and wife Tina, Hobart, OK. and a host of step children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, three brothers; Doris Lott, Ivory Lott, Otis Lott, one son Thomas McMurray-Lott, and one daughter Nina Ruth Ross.
Funeral Services: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Hobart, OK. Burial: Hobart Rose Cemetery.
