Elizabeth B. (Lopes) Allen, 82, of New Bedford died Sunday April 18, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antonio S. and Barbara (Fortes) Lopes, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Allen was formerly employed as a supervisor for Elco Dress Company. She later worked for Coastline Elderly Services and the Dartmouth Council on Aging.
She was a member of the Cape Verdean Women's Social Club. She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, Class of 1946.
Survivors include a son, Robert H. Allen II of New Bedford; two daughters , Bonita W. Monteiro and her husband Robert of Fairfield, CT, and Wakenda E. Johnson and her husband Pierre of Hercules, CA; a brother, Joseph Lopes of New Bedford; a sister, Barbara Offley of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Sean, Alycia, Tanisha, Ilia, and Eurkres; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Matilda Livramento, John Lopes, Manuel Lopes, Antonia Barboza, Beatrice Lessa, Josepha Silva, Gertrude Britto, and Michael Fortes.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
