Maria (Lopes) Amaral, 82, of Albany Street in Fall River passed away Tuesday November 28, 2006 at her residence. She was the wife of the late William Amaral. Born in Sao Miguel Azores on June 12, 1924 the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Ferreira) Lopes, she started working as a tailor for the former Sawyers Campus Shop in Fall River and then onto the former Anderson Little for many years before retiring several years ago. Mrs. Amaral was a former communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Fall River and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She also devoted her life to helping the missions and others in the community.
Survivors are a daughter Fatima Gendreau and her husband Mark of Fall River, MA two sisters Lidia Raposo of North Attleboro, MA Gina Leitao of Lisbon, Portugal two brothers Antonio Lopes of New Jersey Armando Lopes of Florida three grandchildren Mark Gendreau and his wife Crystal Amy Younger and her husband Ralph, and Steven. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Lidia Amaral.
Her funeral will be held from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA followed by a mass of Christian burial at in Holy Name Church 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Burial to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery Fall River.
