Cathola was born in East Jordan, Michigan on 20 July 1913 to Albert and Claudis Swab Lorraine. She attended East Jordan Public Schools and among other school activities she was a member of the High School band in which she played saxophone. After graduation from East Jordan High School she attended Ferris Institute, in Big Rapids, Michigan where she was enrolled in its School of Business.
After college, Cathola took employment with the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan and worked there for about four years. It was there that she met Laurin Bennett, a fellow Dow employee and a descendant of one of the firms earliest technologists. Cathola married Laurin in Angola, Indiana on June 22, 1935.
Laurin retired from the Dow Chemical Company after 40 years of service in 1969, at which time he and Cathola moved to their new home in Bellaire Beach, Florida. Laurin was stricken with Cancer and succumbed to this affliction on July 15, 1972. Cathola continued to live in her Belleair Beach home until her death on June 9, 1997, 41 days short of her 84th birthday.

Nancy Lucille, born 28 May 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan and died 13 March 1993 in Florida. Nancy did not marry.
Kathryn Virginia, born 31 December 1937 in Midland, Michigan - married Larry Richard Torgerson in San Diego, California on 2 November 1961.
Bonnie Laurie, born 18 March 1943 in Midland, Michigan - married George Pytlinski in Belleair Beach, Florida on 30 December 1969.
Joan Marie, born 22 May 1946 in Midland, Michigan. Joan did not marry.
