Excerpt from the Jan. 20, 1966 issue of the East Jordan News Hearld recognizing the 'Special Citizen' she was:

Mrs. Kamradt has spent the last four years operating the chamber of commerce information booth, beginning her work there the day it was formally opened, July 4, 1961.

There are few people in this area more capable of answering the thousands of questions asked by visitors concerning the Jordan Valley area than Martha Kamradt. She knows our history, past and present.

Mrs. Kamradt was born to a newspaper family back in 1902. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lorraine, publishers of the old Charlevoix County Hearld, which was later sold to G.A. Lisk. She was graduated from East Jordan high school in 1921 with 22 in her class; and her father was a member of the school's second graduating class at the age of 14.

Martha married Edward M. Kamradt in 1922 at a time when Mr. Kamradt was employed at Mill B in East Jordan. He passed away four years ago.

The couple operated the Albert Miller Potato Warehouse for 13 years on the site where the Michigan Milk Producers creamery now stands.

In 1942 Mr. Kamradt assumed operation of the Golden Rule Service Station at the corner of M-32 and M-66 and Martha worked with him there for 18 years until her husband's retirement.

There are three Kamradt children: Elizabeth Jean (Bender) of Maryland Heights, Mo; Carl of Detroit and William of Madison Heights. All attended East Jordan high school.

After Mr. Kamradt returned home from his World War I Army service with the Red Arrow Division, he became a charter member of the American Legion, Rebec-Sweet Post 227. Mrs. Kamradt became a charter member of the post's auxiliary and is the American Legion Auxilary's chaplin.

Mrs. Kamradt is a member of the Evangelical Luthern Church and treasurer of its ladies aid. She is a member of the East Jordan Garden Club and is discussion leader for the Miles District Farm Bureau.

Through her business and civic life, Mrs. Kamradt has contributed much to the well being of her hometown. She responded willingly when the chamber of commerce needed her to fill the position at its summer information booth.

She has been a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1920 and its treasurer for the last several years.

It is for these reasons that we feel privileged to include Mrs. Martha Kamradt in this Series of special citizens' salutes.

It is appropriate to inject here that 14 years after the above article was written, Martha was, on July 4th 1980, recognized for her years of community service, by being named the Grand Marshal of East Jordan's Independence Day Parade. She rode in the parade waving to the croud. This would become known as her 'last goodby', as she passed away, suddenly, just three days later, July 7, 1980.
