A graduate of Alliance public schools, she attended Mount Union College before attending The Ohio State University. She became a certified physical therapist and worked in the Cleveland and Akron areas for most of her adult life.
Ruth married the late Robert L. Lowry in 1948 and had three children. She was active in the Akron area in social clubs and the Akron public school system. She had many friends, loved playing bridge and Scrabble, and liked to travel.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, George First.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Dwight) Jowdy of Omaha, Neb., David (Kelly) Lowry of Akron, Ohio, and Janice Lowry of Omaha, Neb.; and six grandchildren, Laura Jowdy of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Robert Jowdy of Omaha, and David, Mahlon, Quinn and Delaney Lowry, all of Akron.
Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron.
