Mrs. Joanne K. Duck passed away at the family home in New Castle, DE on January 7, 2014. Joanne bravely and courageously fought cancer for the last eight months of her life, but sadly lost the battle and finally succumbed at the age of 60. Joanne was born to Eugene and Rosemary Ludden on February 2, 1953 in Wilmington, DE. She was employed by Wilmington Trust for 15 years and also worked for the Colonial School District both prior to and after working for Wilmington Trust.
Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, mom-mom and friend. She was always kind and loving to those around her. She was unwaveringly loyal, unrelentingly energetic, and a compassionate listener. She loved gardening, cooking, crafts and everything Disney. Above all else, Joanne loved and cherished her entire family to which she devoted the majority of her time. Her happiest times were when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by those she has left behind.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Jennifer Marcum (Billy), Katie Brink (Mike), and Melissa Zuka (Mike); 6 grandchildren: Zachary Duck, Riley Marcum, Kallie Marcum, Brendan Zuka, Dylan Zuka, and Piper Brink; brother, Michael Ludden (Monika); nephew, Michael Ludden, Jr. (Christine); niece, Amanda Ludden; and beloved dogs, Gracie and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 38 years, Ronnie J. Duck; and her best friend, Barb Littleton.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of Joanne's life at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Joanne's memory to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
