Sarah Lukins, widow of John Dix, died suddenly about 5:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, February 26, 1909 of heart failure at her home on East Genesee St., Skaneateles in her 80th year. Mrs Dix spent the day with Mr & Mrs Stephen Weeks, accompanying her daughter, Louise, home by carriage about 5 o'clock. At 5:30 while talking to her daughter, the latter evidently slipping from her chair and caught her. Laying on her on the floor, she summoned a neighbor and telephoned for a physican. But before aid arrived Mrs Dix was dead. She had been a sufferer of heart trouble several years.
Mrs Dix was born June 3, 1829 in Draycott, Somersetshire, England, where she was married to John Dix in 1851, coming to that spring. After several years spent in Auburn, Sennett, Oswasco, and Marcellus, they bought and located on a farm in Southeastern Skaneateles in 1862, where they lived until 1901, where they bought and moved to the present family home, where Mr Dix died September 21,1905.
Mrs Dix was an active women, whose every wish was the car and interest in her family. She was the mother of 6 children, of whom 2 survive, John L. Dix and Misses Louisa Dix; also 9 grandchildren; and one sister in England. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of which she was a member. Interment was made in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles.

The other three children, not listed below, are: Hanna Louisa Dix; Anna Elizabeth Dix 1855-1894; and Charlotte Elizabeth Dix 1857-1906.
