Edward Ted J. Lyons, Jr., 78, of Mashpee, died in his office in Waltham on July 22, 2010. He was the husband of Patricia (Miller) Lyons to whom he was married 26 years. Dr. Lyons was a baseball enthusiast. He pitched in the Northern League (equivalent to the Cape Cod Baseball League) after starring at Mission High School in Boston. The Boston Globe recognized him as an All Scholastic in both baseball and football. He graduated Cum Laude from both Holy Cross and Tufts Dental School. After serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army he graduated from Tufts School of Orthodontics. For 45 years he was an orthodontist in Waltham. He was a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, and the YMCA in both Hyannis and Waltham. For many years he sponsored a team in Waltham Little League. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen Lyons of Wellesley, Marilyn Morgan of Natick, Diane Lyons of Natick, Janine Dorbad of Naples, FL Edward J. Lyons, III of Milford, Jessica P. Lyons of East Greenwich, RI, Casey Lyons and Alexandra Lyons both of Mashpee; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clare Flanagan of Needham and Maryellen Keleher of Medfield; and brother William Lyons of East Sandwich. Visiting hours will be from 3-7 pm on Monday, July 26, 2010 in Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. at Route 151, MASHPEE. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 27th at Christ the King Church, 3 Jobs Fishing Rd., MASHPEE followed by burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
