HORICON - Shirley Arndt, 87, of Horicon, died on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, May 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 4 until 6. The Mass of Christian burial will follow the visitation at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Petrie officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon, on Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m.

The former Shirley Mae Mallon was born on April 24, 1920, in Beaver Dam, to Joseph and Mary (Eggleston) Mallon. On March 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lester Arndt in Iowa. Shirley worked at Marlin Toy Co. for 21 years and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was an avid camper at Willow Mills Camp Ground in Rio and made many friends over the 20 years that she and her husband, Lester, camped there. She loved to bake and do crafts and had enjoyed baby sitting for many of the area children over the years. She spent many happy winters in Arizona with her daughter and her family. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and always stated "There are two kinds of people; those who are Irish and those who wish they were Irish." Her family was the most important thing in her life.

Survivors include her four children, Eugene (Marlene) Arndt, Horicon, Rosey Weber, Columbus, Richard (Joanne) Arndt, Madison, and Janice (Tom) Rohloff, Casa Grande, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, with three more soon to be born; her two sisters, Jane Rau, Jackson, and Jean Ann (Ward) Elliot, Madison; her brother, William (Arlene) Mallon, Beaver Dam; her camping family from Willow Mills Camp Ground; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on April 24, 2003; four brothers, Alton, Clinton, Vincent and Walton, and three sisters, Iona, Charlotte and Naida.
