Leland woman dies in hospital.
Mrs. Edward (Mabel) Bender, 79, of Leland, died Thursday, Feb. 23, at Sauk-Prairie Memorial Hospital. The former Mabel Mallon was born July 27, 1898, in the township of Honey Creek. On Feb. 20, 1921, she married Edward Bender and has been a life-long resident of the Leland area. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Leland. Survivors include: her husband Edward, two sons, Harvey of Sauk City and Orville of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Florian (Darlene) Grauvogl of North Freedom: two brothers, Fred and Ora Mallon of Sauk City: a sister, Mrs. George (Elsie) Gieck of North Freedom; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leland Sunday, Feb. 26, with Rev. Bruce Beyer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Gnewikow-Schwoegler-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Sauk City, handled arrangements. Memorials are being directed to the church.
