Mr. Mallon was one of the original employees of IBM Rochester. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1949. He achieved Life Master ranking in duplicate bridge and led Great Books groups for many years. He was very athletic and committed to daily exercise for as long as he was able. The family spent weekends at the lake and enjoyed waterskiing, sailing and windsurfing. He owned and operated the first Windsurfing franchise in Minnesota.
After residing in Rochester for more than 40 years, Mr. Mallon and his wife, Barb, split their time between Edina and Bradenton, Fla.
He is survived by sons, David, John (Joanne Ticen) and Jim; daughters, Sue (Tim Johnson), Martha (Jim O'Keefe) and Katie (John Shields); 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a sister, Jean (Herb Muncy); a brother, Richard; and a sister-in-law, Mary (Frank Bisagna). He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; and a granddaughter.
A memorial service was held March 9 at The Catholic Church of St. Peter in Richfield, Minn.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Minnesota Chapter.
