Alan R. Markunas, 60, of Three Oaks, Michigan died unexpectedly, but peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at his home.

Al was born on June 12, 1955 in South Bend, Indiana to Edward and Eldora (Mangold) Markunas. He attended school in Galien and was a star on the Galien Basketball Team. After graduating from Galien High School in 1973 he attended Lake Michigan College and served an apprenticeship in Tool and Die. Al was employed by Sullair Corporation in Michigan City. He was very involved in the Masonic Lodge and was a Past Worshipful Master of the Three Oaks F & AM Lodge 239. He was a fan of U of M football, the Chicago Bears, and loved listening to Faith Hill. Al enjoyed being with his friends, playing pool, a friendly round of golf, lending a hand at a fundraiser, or sitting on the porch or at a favorite watering hole.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Markunas of Galien; Janet’s mother, Deb Markunas; his brother Duane (Sherry) Markunas of Martinsburg, West Virginia; cousins Don Peterson, Sharon Flick and Diane Bement; and special friends, Tammy and Nancy.

His parents and an older brother preceded him in death.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
