Martha Blake had tuberculosis for many years, although she was not aware of it. So she unknowingly exposed her children to the disease, as well as several other relatives. By the time that she died, on December 16, 1948, one of her lungs had been totally devastated by the disease. Martha died in Banning, California (probably in a hospital or nursing home), and she was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, next to her husband.
