Virginia Derr passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2008, in Portland, Oregon. She was 97 years of age. Known as "Virgie" to most, she was born on Feb. 16, 1911, in Portland to George and Amanda Martin. She was married to Ronald C. Derr for 56 years at the time of his death in 1986. During World War II, while her husband served in the Navy, she had her own business doing Navy tailoring in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.
She was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union - (I.L.G.W.U.). She was a sewing machine operator for women's coats, suits and custom shapes.
