Her greatest love in life was first and foremost the role of mother. Her children came first. To her children she was a stupendous mom. She loved unconditionally no matter what, was honest, understanding and always ready with advice, often not the advice wanted, but needed. She was known as a 'spit fire' and never held back what she was thinking. One dared to ask her opinion or what her thoughts were as she spared nothing in her honest responses and approach to life in general. She was adored by her sons and daughters who felt they were the luckiest persons in the world to be blessed with such a wonderful and caring mother.
She is survived by her spouse, Larry Boland of North, SC; sons Christopher Stowell, Jack M. Herron; daughters, Amber Stowell Davidson (Brian), Barbara Ann 'Sissy' Stowell; stepsons, Andy Boland, Eddie Boland; grandchildren, Amanda Stowell, Lindsay Herron and Chelsea Simpson; brothers, David Mathias (Margaret), Willie Mathias (Bonnie), Sam Mathias (Lisa); nieces and nephews; and her beloved Zoie, Doodles and Muffin.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2010, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, 5400 Old Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. The memorial service will be officiated by the Rev. Melvin Amundson, assistant to the Bishop of the S.C. Synod (ELCA). Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
