Larry Gene Mattingly, 66, of Terra Alta, WV, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Larry was born July 19, 1946, in Hardinsburg, KY, a son of the late Argus Jerome and Avonelle (Davis) Mattingly. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and worked as an Art Teacher throughout his entire career and retired in 2009 from Preston High School. He was a member the Garrett County Art Council and the Preston County Art Center. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dorinda Y. (Short) Mattingly; two sons and spouse, Varian J. Mattingly of Pittsburgh, PA, Lt. Col. Wayne E. "Gene" and Melissa "Missy" Mattingly of Wrightstown, NJ; one daughter, Shawn R. Myer of Morgantown; two sisters and spouse, Brenda and Larry W. Felts of Bowling Green, KY, Joyce Mattingly of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Caleb H. Mattingly, Gabrielle M. Mattingly, Elijah G. Mattingly, Lauryn M. Myer and Cathryn R. Myer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Garry Mattingly. Family and friends may call at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel; 295 South Price Street, Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 1-3pm and 5-9pm; on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Terra Alta Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made in Larry's memory to the Preston Community Art Center, P.O. Box 54, Kingwood, WV 26537.
