Shadrick "Shad" Meshack Mayfield, 65, of Sandusky, passed away on Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2013, in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, after a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 11, 1947, in Lake, Miss., son of Lucile (Crudup) Mayfield and the late John Henry Mayfield. Shad became a member of Mount Zion Church at an early age.

He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1966, and served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home from the military, Shad and his brother, Halvin, owned and operated Inner City Bar. He was later employed by Montgomery Ward until its closing. He then became accounts manager at Curtis Mathes. Shad also helped establish Bones by the Bay.

Shad enjoyed helping and spending time with his friends and family. He could always be found videotaping the family on holidays. A knowledgeable lover of history, he never missed a chance to educate anyone who would listen. He was also an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching his favorite Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shad leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Lucile Mayfield; siblings, Lorean Adcock, Frances (Glenn) Miller, and John (Stephanie) Mayfield, all of Sandusky, and Alvin Mayfield, of Columbus; fiancée, Andre "Dee Dee" Warren; stepgranddaughter, Andre "Dre Dre" Warren; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; special friends, Dwayne Lash and Nick Lillo; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Halvin Mayfield; and nephews, Johnathan "Pooh" Mayfield and Wendell "WK" or "Dub" Bray.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, until funeral services at noon at Eagle's Nest Church, 2126 Pipe St., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
