Camella Tsocheff Mayfield, 93, quietly stepped into heaven Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, in Ashland.

She was born March 8, 1920, on the family homestead in Sofia, N.M., to Krist and Sofia Tsocheff.

At the age of 5, she moved with her family to Massillon, where Camella attended Massillon Washington High School and Canton Actual Business College, and then studied textile arts.

At Canton Christian Church on June 28, 1942, she married Russell William Mayfield, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage until his death in 2012.

During World War II, Camella was able to follow Russell to Texas, New Mexico, Nevada and Michigan before he was stationed in India while serving in the Army Air Corps.

They are the parents of Susan (Tom) Zuercher of Ashland and Tom (Kaye) Mayfield of Richmond, Ky., whom they raised in Canton.

Together they cherished their seven grandchildren, Marc (Brandy) Mayfield, Krista Mayfield, Kimberly (Gary) Hennenfent, Mathew Mayfield, Heather (Roger) Burns, Jared (Katie) Zuercher and Sharla (Paul) Lechner; and six great-grandchildren, Anna, Braden, Kaleb, Eirelyn, Noella and Kaleia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; parents; brothers, Steve and George; and grandson-in-law, Roger Burns.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, John (Donna) Tsocheff; sister-in-law, Marie Tsocheff; brothers-in-law, Bob, Dale and Carl (Betty) Mayfield; beloved nieces and nephews and their children.

During her life, Camella worked as a seamstress for Bloomfield in Massillon, a factory bookkeeper in Detroit, day-care worker and a tailor at Robert Halls, J.C. Penney and from home.

Her sewing skills were widely recognized for excellence and beauty. Camella enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, collecting cookbooks, reading, ceramics, Girl Scouts and painting.

She delighted in spending time with her many friends and being involved with her church activities, and particularly enjoyed traveling around the United States with Russell and other family members.

As a child, Camella was a founding member of Massillon Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren in North Canton and most recently attended Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren, where her son-in-law serves as pastor.

She always saw the best in people and encouraged them to strive to dream.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren, 4152 Mount Pleasant St. NW, North Canton, with the Rev. Tom Zuercher and the Rev. Bruce Jacobsen officiating.
