Jessie Bratcher, 70, of Norman died the morning of June 17th after an extended illness. Jessie was born December 2, 1916, in Wayne. She was the sixth child born to Louis & Lear Mayfield on December 2, 1916 at Wayne, McClain county Oklahoma. (She had three sisters, one brother, one sibling dying in infancy, and one half sister.) In 1942 she married John Woodrow Bratcher. They moved to Washington, Oklahoma in 1945 and had a dairy farm there which they ran for many years, before moving to Norman in 1968. She was a PBX operator at Goddard Health Center, University of Oklahoma, and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Naomi Sunday School Class. Services will be at 2 PM Friday at the Mayes Chapel of remembrance, with the Rev. Dick Martin of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at the Washington cemetery, Washington, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of a Mayes Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters Deloris Givens of Washington and Sharon Womack of Lilburn Georgia; one brother, Charlie Mayfield of Camby, California; and one sister, Sallie Ewing of Norman. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, as well as by one brother and two sisters. She was laid to rest next to her husband John in the cemetery at Washington Oklahoma where they rest from their labours until they rise on Resurrection Morning to greet our Risen Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ, by your own three days in the tomb, you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you and so made the grave a sign of hope that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies.

Grant that our sister may sleep here in peace until you awaken her to glory, for you are the resurrection and the life.

Trusting in God, we have prayed together for our sister and now we come to the last farewell. There is sadness in parting, but we take comfort in the hope that one day we shall see her again and enjoy her friendship. Although we will disperse in sorrow, the mercy of God will gather us together again in the joy of his kingdom. Therefore let us console one another in the faith of Jesus Christ.
