CREAM OF THE NEWS IN GIRARD AND PHENIX CITY
Local Happenings in Our Sister Cities Across River

Mrs. Jane Blalock, one of Lee coun-
ty's oldest citizens, died at the resi-
dence of her sister, Mrs. John D.
White, in Phenix City, yesterday af-
ternoon at 5:45 o'clock, of fever and
old age. She had been sick about two
weeks, and while her death was not
unexpected, it was quite a shock to her
grief-stricken relatives and friends,
who had administered to her every
need, and despite all that medical
skill and loving hands could do, she
passed peacefully away to the great be-
yond. With her demise, passed from this
world a life of usefulness. She
was 75 years old and a most true and
noble Christian woman. She was the
eldest daughter of William H. and
Elizabeth (Cox) Maynor, who were
among the first settlers of Muscogee
county, and who, with the MacDou-
galds, were extensive land owners in
this section just prior to the war. Mrs.
Blalock leaves three sisters and three
brothers and five children to mourn
her loss. Her brothers and sisters are
Messrs. M. W. Maynor, of Birmingham,
Ala., and A. H. Maynor, of Chatta-
nooga, Tenn.; Mrs. Ann King, of Wes-
son, Miss.; Mrs. F. C. White and Mrs.
A.C. Bankston, of Phenix City. Her
children are Messrs. John T. and Mon-
roe Blalock, of Blount county, Ala.;
Mrs. Mary Maneny, Mrs. Fannie Rid-
dle and Mrs. Carroll Burdle, of Yale,
Ala. The funeral will take place at 2
o'clock today from Pleasant Grove
church in Lee county, of which she
was a member, and the remains will
be interred in the old family ceme-
tery near the church.
