Virginia McAlexander Agnew, 90, of Bassett, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

She was born in Floyd on Feb. 4, 1917, to Jessie McAlexander and Mary Griffith McAlexander.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Agnew; one son, Palmer Agnew; five brothers, Nathan McAlexander, Thelma McAlexander, Euell McAlexander, Homer McAlexander and Arthur McAlexander; three sisters, Zula Agnew, Ethel Hall and Alice McAlexander.

She was a member of Fairway Baptist Church in Bassett.

Surviving are six daughters, Mary Ruth Allen of Collinsville, Goldie Stone of Bassett, Edna Wishnevsky of Martinsville, Clara Cockram of Ridgeway, Evelyn McIntosh of Lynchburg and Connie Cuevas of Virginia Beach; three sons, Leroy Agnew of Patrick Springs and Benard Agnew and James Agnew, both of Bassett; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with the Rev. George Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
