She was born on July 20, 1927, in Midland, the daughter of Ralph and Esther (Richardson) McCoy. Kathleen Joyce McCoy married James Fredrick Broka on Aug. 19, 1945, in Coleman. Joy retired from the Bullock Creek School District in 1982 after 16 years of service as an executive secretary to the superintendent. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Coleman. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Coleman. She was also a member of the Geneva Hope United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School.
Joy is survived by her husband, Jim; two daughters, Kathy and Richard Ranck of Reidville, S.C. and Vicky Warner of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Richard McCoy.
Funeral and committal services will be held Sunday, May 1, 2005, 2 p.m. at the Geneva Hope United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Bourns will officiate. Burial will take place in Warren Township Cemetery, Coleman.
Friends may call at the O'Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. There will be an Eastern Star service Saturday evening, 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to MidMichigan Hospice of Midland County.
