OBITUARY
Death of Mrs. George P. Barton.
Mrs. George P. Barton died at her home, 1024 South Water street, at 11:30 o'clock this morning, in her 78th year.
Mrs. Barton has been sick for a little over four weeks, and because of her feebleness and advanced age, it was recognized from the first that her case was a serious one. All that medical skill and tender nursing could do was done, but without avail, and she sank to her final rest.
Mrs. Barton's maiden name was Margaret McCracken. She was born in Gettysburg, and married in 1845. She and her husband came to Meadville at once and have resided here ever since.
Two years ago, the 16th of June, their golden wedding anniversary was celebrated.
Mrs. Barton was a member of the Unitarian church and always lived a Christian life. She was a home woman, a disability in one foot rendering walking any distance difficult. She shone pre-eminent in her home qualities and her many friends will miss the genial face when they call, always showing a cordial welcome.
Her aged husband and daughter Mrs. John Skelton survive her, five children having preceded her to the better world.
The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
(The Evening Republican, Meadville, Pa., Wed., March 31, 1897, pg.4)
The funeral services of the late Mrs. George P. Barton will take place at the bereaved home tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Interment private.
(The Evening Republican, Meadville, Pa., Thurs., April 1, 1897, pg. 4)
