SACO - Joan M. Banks, 86, formally of Cumberland Center, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at her residence at Seal Rock at Atlantic Heights.
She was born in Leicester, Mass. on April 16, 1928, a daughter of Michael F. (Frank) and Helen (O'Brien) McGauley. She graduated from Leicester High School, class of 1946.
She married John C. Banks on Nov. 3, 1954, at St. Joseph's Church in Worcester.
Joan worked as dental office manager for Dr. Kenneth Partyka in Cumberland for 27 years.
She was an active member, first of Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth and then of Holy Martyrs Church in Falmouth.
She was an avid golfer and an early member of Val Halla Country Club in Cumberland. There she won multiple tournaments including two women's club championships and a President's Cup.
A widow for 50 years, she was predeceased by her husband, as well as a sister, Helen F. McGauley, three brothers, John McGauley, James McGauley, and Frank McGauley; and a granddaughter Angela Marie Banks.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary A. Banks and partner Thomas Steffens of Narragansett, RI, and Joni M. Banks and husband Steven Cox of Little Deer Isle, five sons, Stephen J. Banks of Hollis, NH, David M. Banks and wife Donna of Falmouth, Peter A. Banks of Seabrook, NH, James V. Banks and wife Paula of Carlisle, Mass., and Thomas P. Banks of Kona, Hawaii; 16 grandchildren, Michael D. Banks, Kathryn L. Banks, Amy E. (Banks) Pires, Clifford J. Banks, Cindy A. Banks, Kelly M. Banks, Zachary J. Banks, Justin D. Banks, Kiki N. Banks, John T. Banks, Tahki A. Banks, Demietria D. Banks, Jamie Cox, Michael Rossi, Marc Rossi, and Marissa Rossi; and great granddaughter, Addison Marie Paul.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:00 am, Saturday, Feb. 14th at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth. Burial will take place in the spring at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yarmouth. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ctcrawford.com.
