A tragic taking off was that of Mrs John Bailey, who was killed by the cars near the Newtown railroad station, Sunday morning, shortly after 10 o'clock. Mrs Bailey, with her husband, was returning from service at St. Rose's church. Mr Bailey stopped a moment to speak to someone at the Newtown station, while his wife proceeded up the track on the way to her home. When opposite the creamery she was struck in the hip by the engine a special train and thrown to one side, striking a switch bar in the fall. She was carried in an unconscious condition to the depot, where she expired in a few minutes. Medical Examiner Schuyler notified Funeral Director Keating, who took her body to home she had so lately left in the best of health. Mrs Bailey was 49 years old and is survived by her husband, one son and two daughters. The funeral was largely attended on Wednesday morning from St. Rose's church. Father Fox officiated. The pall bearers were Thomas Hetherman, John Halpine of Bridgeport, Andrew McMahon and Peter O'Dea of New Haven, Patrick O'Dea of Waterbury and Thomas Lynch. There were a number of beautiful floral tributes, including a large pillow from the family, a large cross from Mr and Mrs J. P. Keane and Mr and Mrs John Finnell of Bridgeport, bouquets from Mrs Thomas Falls and Mrs Edward Costello of Bethel. The burial was in St. Rose's cemetery.
