The George Meade mentioned in the marker transcription was the son of Robert Meade, who died in Philadelphia in 1754. He was born about 1741 and married about 1768 Henrietta Constantia, daughter of the Hon. Richard Worsam of Barbados, and was for many years a merchant in this city. He was buried in the grounds of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, on Fourth Street, in a vault about twenty feet west of the church edifice, and six or eight feet south of the central avenue.
