Adolph was the son of Pedro and Marie Marcissa del Carmel (Cordero) Mella. Pedro was born in 1803 in Chile and Marie was born in Mexico about 1837. Adolph was born in California, so his parents immigrated to the U.S. prior to his birth. The first census we can find them listed is 1860 in Pajaro, CA.
Adolph first married Juana Acevas and they had one daughter, Laura (1873). According to family lore, Juana became ill and her sister, Theresa, moved in to help with the family. In the 1880 census, Adolph, Juana, Laura, and Theresa were still living in Pajaro. Juana died some time after the 1880 census, and Theresa became Adolph's second wife.
Adolph and Theresa's children were Benita (1881), Matilda (1882), Nora (1884), Mary (1886), Ascencion (1888), Magdaline and Martha (twins-1890), Adolph (1893), Josie (1898), John (1901), Henrietta (1902), Henry (1906), and Antoinette (1911).
