Houston Chronicle, June 3, 2003:

Mary Ella Boyce (Mella), age 84, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Houston, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2003. She was born in Marshall, Texas in 1918. At the age of 5, she and her family moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She grew up there and graduated from Centenary College. She met and married Shelton Boyce and was widowed in 1969. She loved ballroom dancing and won many competitions and trophies. She also loved needlepoint and was very accomplished at it. Her most important achievement was her family, which she was totally devoted to.

She is survived by her son, Shelton Boyce III and wife, Nancy Boyce; daughter, Bee Evans and husband, Dr. Arthur Evans; grandchildren, Lisa Evans, Mikel Corman, and April McDaniel; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Albert Bartschmid and wife, Melba; as well as numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4th , 2003, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon in the Memorial Mission Mausoleum at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer.
