Mrs Charlotte Berning died at the home of her son, Henry Berning, in St Joe township on Friday afternoon at the age of seventy-seven years. Death was due to senility.
Mrs Berning was born in Preuss Minden, Germany and came to this country when a girl. She was one of the best-known residents of the township, having lived there the greater portion of her life. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
Surviving are her children, Henry Berning of St Joe township; Mrs Luzetta Buhr of Milan township; Mrs Bernadina Schoppman of Milan township; William Berning of Fort Wayne; Conrad Berning of St Joe township and John Berning. thirty-five grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren also survive.
The funeral will take place from the residence at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, sun time, and at 2 o'clock from the St Joe chapel. Fort Wayne Journal Gazette - January 11, 1908
