Patricia Jean Baker, the daughter of Walter H. and Sylvia Mae L. (Traver) Mesner, was born September 26, 1941, in Paullina, Iowa. She attended Zion Lutheran School and Paullina Public School and went on to attend Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon and received her degree as a nurse’s aid.

She was united in marriage to Pete E. Norton in August of 1959 in Berkley, California. The couple were married 34 years. She remarried in 1993 in Calumet, Iowa and divorced shortly afterwards.

She had made her home in Northern California and in Iowa and moved to Sutherland in 1994. She had been employed in nursing homes in LeMars and later the County Home in Orange City. Along with her husband, Pete, she had been a foster parent, having up to eight foster children, as well as raising her own family. She passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, reaching the age of 63 years, 11 months and 22 days.

She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, her flower garden and small remodeling jobs around her home.

Pat leaves to cherish her memory the father of Pat's four children and life long friend, Pete Norton, of Sutherland; four children, Brenda and her husband Michael Montgomery of Hospers; Barbi Lemmon of Cherokee; Patricia (Paul) Isom of Sutherland and David Norton of Sutherland; 8 grandchildren, Christopher Montgomery, Rebecca Van Muyden, Crystal Montgomery, Peter and Samantha Lemmon, Trenton, Keaton and Jenna McClaren; 2 great grandchildren, Austin Montgomery and Alexess Roeder; 2 brothers, Chester Mesner of LeMars and Dale Mesner of Belmont, California; also other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Thomas Cresson and a sister, Bonnie Mulder.
